Hetertopic Pancreas

Abstract
Authors presented a case of heterotopic pancreas in the jejunum that was found incidentally during an exploratory laparatomy for the traumatic injury in the left flank of a twenty three-year old ROKAF officer.
Upon the laparotomy, there were found an extensive retro-peritoneal hemorrhage and diffuse subserosal hemorrhage in left half of the colon. And, a soft boggy mass in the wall of proximal jejunum, 60 cm. distal from the Treitz ligament was also found. Grossly, it was a well circumscribed grayish tumor that was lobulated, measuring 2.0 cm. in diameter, being located in the submucosa. Microscopically it was composed of every pancreatic elements, i.e., pancreatic acini, Langerhans islets, intercalated ducts and even a large duct with typical lining epithelium. Langerhans islets were never scarcely distributed. No evidence of proliferation or chronic inflammation in the heterotopic tissue was observed in the sections.
A brief review of literature was also given concerning the formal pathogenesis of heterotopic pancreas.
